Humans- Inventors or the Invented?

This question has long been the bone of contention in my mind. Are the humans like the pieces of a puzzle, used by the sculptor called God, to complete a bigger picture? Or did we humans create a supernatural being that exists only in man-made scriptures, just to answer life's unanswerable questions?

If one looks at the way how humans have evolved intellectually over time, one can easily state that man has this inherent quality of questioning virtually anything. The interrogative words- " what, where, when, who, why and how " have been extensively used by man. We don't like something, we question them. We find an answer and implement them. But what has actually led to evolution is the fact that we (more often than not) end up questioning the very answers we once endorsed.

Could it be vaguely possible that our fore-fathers created a force, an imaginary one, to push down the evil that would surface in an individual. An evil that would end up maybe defining humans as a barbaric species, filled with nothing but disgust for its fellow animals. Our ancestors needed something that would check or curb such thoughts. That "something", gave rise to God and of course the varied religions that we see today, preaching the word of God. God then, is nothing but a mere figment of our imagination. God is that name of the solution to the problem that our antecedents were facing. Since then, the solution has been deeply instilled in us, that God has managed to achieve more than what he was designed for.

Now, if humans did invent God, given the volatile nature of our species, i have no doubts as such, that one day, we will question the existence of God. Our one time remarkable solution called "God", only to be replaced by another one. What the new solution would be, we'll just have to wait!!

Or somewhere above, in the elysian lands, someone is watching over us, foolishly playing with His Creation. Like a doting parent would, without bursting the bubble the child chose to live in. He is very much amused, by our actions and is very happy because we humans are playing "gods". I mean which parent won't be happy if the child apes them!!!!
